Caligula's
Blades of Exile
Scenarios Database
This page hosts what I call a Database. It contains most of the Blades
scenarios, including all I've played. Most of the scenarios will have
various informations about them.
The main goal of this database is to give players some interesting
informations; you can guess what could be the scenario length, and the
time you're expected to spend on it.
The data will be the following:
The size (in Kb) of the scenario file; it is the .exs file, not
taking the custom graphics file in account, as I want to show the
scenario approximate size, and the graphics don't matter from this
point of view.
The number of outdoor levels; including the oudtoor sections you
can effectively wander through (scenarios like Quests of the Spheres
contain a lot of empty section, due to the nature of their world).
The number of towns; containing the number of towns you could
really visit (as some scenarios have up to 3 aborted towns that weren't
even drawn, as Murder in Ilyanon).
An estimation of the time (in Exile days) needed to finish the
scenario; it is based on the real time it took me to do it (assuming
I'm now a veteran Exile and Blades player, and I'm very very thorough
in my explorations). I have to mention I didn't took notice of this for
the first scenarios I played, and put there what was in my memory;
those datas are marked with a *.
Party's appropriate level to begin scenario; again based upon my
own experience as a veteran. Complete newbies should add 1 or 2 levels
for many scenarios, but my estimation is generally accurate, in my
humble opinion.
Nearly all the scenarios are linked to an archived zipped file,
most of them at Spiderweb Software's Site. For the moment, only a very
few are located on my site. This will change one day, perhaps.
Notice that I didn't linked the 3 official scenarios that come with Blades of Exile, for obvious reasons.
The scenarios are divided into 4 tables. The most common division
would be Spiderweb's, in Low, Medium, High and Very High. But it isn't
accurate for various reasons.
First of all, there's a *big* difference if you begin a low level scenario with a beginner or with a level 6 party.
Then, there's a well-known feature in Blades that double the
monster's HPs after your party gain much levels. To avoid this, some
designers intentionally rated their scenario high, though they were for
medium or even low parties.
To fix those problems, I've ranked the scenarios in difficulty
order, from the ones designed for beginner parties to the more tougher
ones. They are in 4 tables: 1-9, 10-19, 20-29, 30 and + levels.
Of course, I haven't an estimation of the appropriate level for
all scenarios. Those that I wasn't able to rank are labeled with the
Spiderweb's rating and are put at the end of their appropriate table.
The scenarios I haven't played but that contained explicit infos
about the accurate level to begin with are marked with ??, as it isn't
extracted from my own experience.
